Why doesn’t Nanolia supply coatings using TiO2?

As a result of a lot of recent publicity about the anti-bacterial properties of TiO2 (Titanium Dioxide), many people have asked us if we can supply coatings that include TiO2. So we asked our Technical Director. Here's his reply:

“In answer to your question about coatings using TiO2 (Titanium Dioxide)

In fact TiO2 (Titanium Dioxide) works. And when combined with silver it works really well. However, it is still the problem that Ti02 coatings are not long lasting. Our scientists have discussed a few new ideas and raw material information but so far (from the theoretical side) there are as yet no new ideas to avoid this problem.

I understand that some companies might want to get in first by announcing that they have a TiO2 product and from that obtain big leads in order to develop special solutions for the customers. But this is a dangerous strategy that will lead only to disappointment and could even damage the reputation of nanocoatings.

If we supply products that are only 30% good, we will lose our good reputation very fast. On the other hand, if we have 30% solution and can improve it, that would be very good. But then we will come under enormous time pressure. Time pressure is poison for any new developments!

We have some new ideas for long-lasting silver coatings and smooth surfaces. I think this could be the better way. Offering silver-based products that work well against bacteria would be the correct first step, and then take the second step in offering a product combining silver and TiO2.

I will keep you informed of our progress.”
